Da Vero Vino Catarratto, Sicily, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Organic, oily, fleshy.
Da Vero is an organic wine made by Araldica, a third-generation, family-operated co-operative based in Piedmont, Italy. Araldica has expanded their winemaking projects, working with local farmers and growers throughout Italy to produce well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varietals in regions such as Veneto, Lombardy, Abruzzo and Sicily.
The Catarratto grapes are sourced from the north-west corner of Sicily, at Calatafimi, between Marsala and Palermo. The vines grow in high altitude vineyards (around 500m) with chalky soils. The vineyards were converted to organic viticulture in 2005, the wine was mature only in stainless steel.
It's a bright yellow hue and suggests aromas of candle wax, applesauce, dried pineapples and burnt honey. The palate is sleek and oily with flavours of arugula and grilled lemons--it has a fleshy character.
It's a straightforward weekday dinner white.
